Lillian Hellman, author of “The Children’s Hour” and “The Little Foxes” was living at the Garden of Allah when she and writer Arthur Kober (with whom she’d moved to Hollywood) decided to divorce in 1931. She subsequently paired up with Dashiell Hammett with whom she stayed for the next 30 years.
