Dorothy Parker – resident of the Garden of Allah Hotel

Writer Dorothy Parker stayed at the Garden of Allah on and off over the years when Hollywood studios would beckon her to write for them. The first time she made the trip was in 1929 to work at MGM for a 3 month contract at $300 a week. Her best known contribution was to the 1937 version of “A Star Is Born” which she co-wrote with her husband Alan Campbell. Her closest friend was the humorist and critic Robert Benchley, another frequent resident at the Garden of Allah.
