Bessie Love – resident of the Garden of Allah Hotel
Bessie Love was a popular actress whose career started with D.W. Griffiths in the mid-1910s appearing in both “The Birth of a Nation” (1915) and “Intolerance” (1916). She successfully made the transition to talkies and in 1929 was was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress for “The Broadway Melody,” and also appeared in several other early musicals including “The Hollywood Revue of 1929.” She lived at the Garden of Allah during its early years.
