Dorothy Parker is so closely associated with New York that it is often forgotten that she lived at the Garden of Allah and elsewhere around town — in fact, for a brief while, she owned one of those tiny houses on Norma Place — off and on from the mid-1930s through the 1960s.

So it is fitting that there will be several events here next week celebrating the publication of a new book about one of Parker’s — and West Hollywood’s — favorite pass times: Drinking. The author, Kevin Fitzgerald, president of the of the New York branch of the Dorothy Parker Society will be in town to promote the new book, “Under the Table: A Dorothy Parker Cocktail Guide.” Local host will be Adrienned Crew, president of the Los Angeles DPS chapter.

Fitzgerald will be present at four events to discuss his book, Mrs. Parker and libations. Three of them are free, but the bus tour costs $49:

• Thursday, Dec. 12 – 6 to 9 p.m.:
  Cocktails and a book talk and signing at the Los Angeles Athletic Club, 431 West Seventh Street, sponsored by the Los Angeles Visionaries Association (LAVA). The event is free and open to the public, but reservations are required and can be made here.
• Friday, Dec. 13 – 6 to 8 p.m.:
  Author meet and greet at Tags, 8570 W. Sunset Blvd. in Sunset Plaza on the Strip. Sample cocktails and enjoy 15 percent off on merchandise. Please RSVP here.
• Saturday, Dec. 14 – 1 p.m. departure:
  A bus tour of Dorothy Parker’s West Hollywood and Beverly Hills, visiting her former homes and haunts. See where the Garden of Allah once stood and spy the former mansions and cottages that Mrs. Parker resided in. Tour boards in the parking lot of the vacant building at 8801 Sunset Blvd. on the Strip (across from Book Soup). Tickets are $49 each and available here.
• Saturday, Dec. 14 – 4 p.m.:
  Fitzgerald will discuss his book at Book Soup, Los Angeles’ premiere independent bookstore, at 8818 Sunset on the Strip. The event is free and open to the public. Information and details on the Book Soup website. Note: This is the only book store event in Los Angeles to buy a signed copy of the book.
